Jets fear safety Antonio Allen suffers torn achilles

The New York Jets fear safety Antonio Allen suffered a torn achilles during Thursday's training camp practice. Allen will undergo an MRI on Friday.

What It Means:

Allen is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and this injury could signal the end of his Jets career. Allen is currently slotted as the backup safety to Calvin Pryor on the Jets depth chart. Allen has made 31 appearances the last two seasons at both safety and cornerback.

This injury should weaken the Jets' depth in the secondary. The Jets ranked 21st in our schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points metric last season. Our algorithms projected Allen to work out of a reserve role this season projecting him to finish with 14 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
