Buccaneers expected to feature backfield committee Thursday night
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to use "an running back by committee" approach against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
Doug Martin (hamstring) and Jacquizz Rodgers (sprained foot) will not be available, leaving the Buccaneers with a trio of Antone Smith, Peyton Barber and the recently signed Mike James. Smith out-snapped Barber 22-3 once Rodgers left Sunday's loss against the Oakland Raiders, and him and head coach Dirk Koetter have history from their time in Atlanta together. We expect Smith to see the majority of work, while Barber will likely get the short-yardage scoring opportunities. James is just another able body at this point.
Smith finished with 16 yards on four carries in Week 8, earning -0.16 Rushing Net Expected Points.
