Melvin Gordon may see lighter workload moving forward
San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon could see less usage as the season progresses, according to running backs coach Ollie Wilson.
"We’ve got to do that for no other reason than down the road when you look at his carries, you say ‘Hey maybe that’s going to be too much,’" Wilson said. Gordon is currently on pace for 361 touches this season. That number may trickle down slightly, but Gordon will remain San Diego's clear lead back and a strong RB1 for fantasy purposes. Kenneth Farrow and Dexter McCluster are the other two backs on the roster.
Touchdowns have been Gordon's calling this year (he leads the NFL with 10), but efficiency has not. One of 13 backs to rush at least 100 times so far in 2016, Gordon's -0.08 Rushing Net Expected Points per play rank him ahead of only Todd Gurley.
