Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain Jets' starter due to Geno Smith's (knee) injury

New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback after Geno Smith suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's win over the Baltimore Ravens.

What It Means:

Fitzpatrick's benching lasted one and a half quarters. Magically, he avoided turnovers as the Jets beat the Ravens. Speaking after the game, Fitz sounded embittered by his demotion. "I think I should start every week," Fitz told the New York Daily News. "When the owner stops believing in you and the GM stops believing in you and coaches stop believing in you, sometimes all you have is yourself." He'll be free to toss as many interceptions as he likes going forward, as both rookie Christian Hackenberg and practice squadder Bryce Petty are ludicrously unprepared to start an NFL game.

Smith had earned 4.04 Net Expected Points on his eight passing attempts prior to exiting the game, per numberFire Live. Fitzpatrick had 0.14 NEP on his 14 attempts.
