Wendell Smallwood in on just one play for Eagles in Week 5
Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood played just one snap Week 5.
Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews handled the bulk of the backfield duties against the Detroit Lions. For now Smallwood is just a handcuff, but a late fumble by Mathews ended up costing Philadelphia the game. This could change the dynamic moving forward, and Smallwood remains an intriguing bench stash.
Mathews has sustained 0.12 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry on 33 attempts this season, while Smallwood holds a rate of 0.17 Rushing NEP per carry on 20 rushing attempts.
