San Francisco 49ers quarterback Christian Ponder is gaining "some support" in the locker room to take over as starter, reports CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Ponder has been "more consistent" than Colin Kaepernick and is the "best option for quarterback on the roster," according to two separate locker-room sources. This isn't the first report claiming Kaepernick has underwhelmed on the practice field, and another anonymous player "questioned [his] commitment" to football amidst his civil-right endeavors. Following five abysmal performances from current starter Blaine Gabbert, head coach Chip Kelly was noncommittal on who will be under center for San Francisco moving forward.
Gabbert completed 18-of-31 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Thursday night's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, earning a lousy -10.18 Net Expected Points.
