49ers' Arik Armstead may need shoulder surgery in offseason
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead said he may need shoulder surgery in the future, but he expects to be ready Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
It sounds like Armstead might be dealing with a rotator cuff or labrum issue. He hasn't played at all this preseason, though left tackle Joe Staley praised Armstead's practice efforts three weeks ago, calling him the standout player on defense.
Our algorithms project the 49ers to rank just 27th in Defensive Net Expected Points over the 2016 season.
