Matt McGloin has locked up Raiders backup job already

Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt McGloin has already locked up the backup quarterback job, ESPN's Adam Caplan suggests.

What It Means:

Caplan said fourth-round rookie Connor Cook is a "distant" third. Cook was expected to push McGloin after the Raiders moved up to grab him, but it was always unlikely the rookie would be able to unseat one of the better backups in the league. McGloin is set to hit free agency next spring, where he will be a dark horse to garner starting-type offers like Chase Daniel did this offseason. Cook would then step in as the backup.

McGloin has a career 6.9 yards per attempt average on 262 attempts, with 11 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He has a career -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back in 272 drop backs since 2013, so he has been almost exactly league-average in that regard.
