Eric Ebron (ankle) won't play in Lions' preseason opener

Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron (ankle) isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason opener.

What It Means:

With Ebron and veteran blocker Brandon Pettigrew (knee, PUP) out, blocking specialist Matthew Mulligan will probably run with the first-team offense. Undrafted rookie Cole Wick, who had a few offseason highlights, should also receive plenty of work.

Among the 28 tight ends to see at least 50 targets last year, Ebron ranked 11th in Reception Net Expected Points per target. Our algorithms project him for 50 receptions for 533 receiving yards and 4.82 touchdowns, if healthy.
