Erin Henderson

Darron Lee working exclusively with Jets' backups

New York Jets rookie inside linebacker Darron Lee has worked exclusively with the backups, NJ Advance Media reports.

What It Means:

Lee, who specializes in speed and coverage duties, was expected to have a role in sub packages at the very least as a rookie. He has yet to see any work with the starting nickel unit, however, and is clearly behind Erin Henderson in base sets. The job is clearly his in the future if he can earn it, but he has yet to make his mark in camp this season.

The Jets' defense finished 2015 ranked sixth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play. Our algorithms project Henderson for 84.75 tackles this season, but little in the way of coverage statistics (i.e. interceptions, passes defended). This should be Lee's territory sooner, rather than later.
