Cowboys' Kellen Moore suffers broken right ankle

Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Kellen Moore suffered a broken right ankle at Tuesday night's training camp practice.

What It Means:

He's likely going to miss the season, though it's possible the Cowboys will use their "I.R./designated for return" spot if no other significant injuries occur this summer. Rookie Dak Prescott is very unpolished, and the Cowboys may not want to risk throwing him into the fire if the oft-injured Tony Romo hits the trainer's table again. This could pave the way for free agent Nick Foles to be signed as their second-stringer.

Last season, Moore got his first NFL action. He attempted 104 passes, completing 59 percent of them for 779 yards, four scores and six picks. Among signal callers with at least 100 drop backs last year, Moore checked in 22nd in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. Foles' -0.17 Passing NEP per drop back ranked 44th.
