Davante Adams the favorite for Packers' third receiver
Green Bay Packers wideout Davante Adams will open the season as the team's number three receiver, ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky predicted on Mike Clay's Sirius XM Fantasy Show.
Demovsky recognized that Adams will "feel the heat" from Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis, rookie Trevor Davis and possibly the injured Ty Montgomery at some point. While Janis would appear to pose the biggest threat to Adams, Demovsky explains Janis is "still a raw guy," and that it "seems he's just not there yet." Adams finished at the very bottom of the league last season in terms of yards per target, but the Packers remain optimistic that their 2014 second-round pick will prove to be a reliable asset in their offense.
Of the 48 receivers to see at least 80 targets last season, Adams ranked second-to-last in Receiving Net Expected Points per target. Our models don't expect a turnaround for the 23-year-old in 2016, currently projecting him to total 30 catches for 311 yards and 1.52 touchdowns on the year. This would rank him outside of the top-100 for the season, based on numberFire's metrics.
