Patriots' LeGarrette Blount (hip) avoids active/PUP list

New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount (hip) avoided the active/PUP list to begin training camp.

What It Means:

It's a great sign after Blount missed all spring practices. ESPN's Mike Reiss reported Blount's roster spot wasn't secure, but if he is healthy and in good shape -- which he is right now -- he is the favorite to handle between-the-tackles carries in the Patriots' high-scoring offense. New England may lean on Blount more than usual during quarterback Tom Brady's four-game ban.

Blount was extremely efficient in 2015, ranking ninth in Rushing Net Expected Points per play among backs with at least 100 carries. Our algorithms project him as the 31st-best running back for fantasy purposes in 2016, with a rushing line of 183 carries for 736 yards and 6 scores.
