Stevan Ridley favored for Lions' big-back role

Detroit Lions running back Stevan Ridley is the favorite for the team's third running back spot, according to team reporter Tim Twentyman.

What It Means:

Twentyman sees Ridley as a change-of-pace runner behind speedy lead back Ameer Abdullah and passing-down specialist Theo Riddick. Of course, that's if he can stay healthy. Ridley looked sluggish last year in his first season back from an ACL tear and missed most of the Lions' offseason program. Ridley has to hold off impressive sophomore Zach Zenner, George Winn and rookie Dwayne Washington.

Our algorithms peg the role as a small one, but offer it to Zenner in the projections. We give Zenner 21 carries for 85 yards rushing, and 8 catches for 52 yards in the air. Ridley is even lower than that, as our 130th-best fantasy option at running back heading into training camp.
