Carolina Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess will emerge as the team's number-two receiver this season, expects ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton.
Funchess found himself behind Ted Ginn, Jerricho Cotchery and Corey Brown throughout last year's rookie campaign, but he proved to be one of the most efficient offensive players for Carolina down the stretch. Cotchery is no longer on the roster, while Kelvin Benjamin's (ACL) return will push Ginn and Brown towards the back seat of the Panthers' aerial attack. Funchess has some appealing sleeper potential this upcoming season.
Funchess ranked 35th in Net Expected Points (NEP) per target last season at 0.71 among receivers with at least 60 targets. Despite not having Benjamin, the Panthers still ranked ninth in Passing NEP and first in nERD in 2015.
