Russell Wilson won't take contract talks into training camp
Russell Wilson appears willing to table contract talks when the Seahawks begin training camp on Friday.
It's apropos for Wilson to put the team first, even though he wants to be the NFL's highest-paid quarterback, earning roughly $25 million per year. The Seahawks seem unwilling to pay him the current high-water mark of Aaron Rodgers' $22 million annually.
Thanks to one of the most stellar rushing campaigns since the turn of the century, Wilson ranked eighth among quarterbacks in our Total Net Expected Points (NEP) metric, which compares a player to expectation-level performance. However, his Passing NEP has declined each year in the league. His 47.65 Passing NEP in 2014 ranked worse than Mark Sanchez's score, and it was also 36.36 points worse than his mark as a rookie and down 27.01 points from his 2013 season.
