Eagles give Fletcher Cox extension, $63 million guaranteed

The Philadelphia Eagles signed defensive tackle Fletcher Cox to a six-year, $103 million extension through 2022.

What It Means:

Cox gets $63 million guaranteed, besting the $60 million Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh received for the most ever for a non-quarterback. Cox was entering the final year of his rookie contract and won't turn 26 years-old until December. The extension is well deserved, even if he isn't the first name who comes to mind as someone we'd predict setting a new-money record.

Cox was the number two overall 3-4 end last season behind J.J. Watt, according to Pro Football Focus. He'll continue to attack from the interior of the defense this season as a 4-3 tackle for new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
