Reshad Jones likely to sit out Dolphins' minicamp

Miami Dolphins strong safety Reshad Jones is expected to sit out mandatory minicamp, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

What It Means:

Jones wants a new contract, but with two years remaining on his deal, the Dolphins have little incentive to meet his demands. Jones will be subject to more than $70,000 in fines if he skips minicamp. If his holdout lasts into the regular season, he would lose around $400,000 per game. Beat reporter Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald said the league believes that Jones "badly misplayed his hand."

Miami ranked just 30th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play, as well as a woeful 31st in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play. Jones did have a ridiculous 2015 campaign, with 136 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, 5 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), and 10 passes defensed.
