Broncos' Javonte Williams (knee) practicing 'in a limited capacity'
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Thursday that running back Javonte Williams (knee) was practicing "in a limited capacity" as the team opens its first training camp.
This is fantastic news for Williams, who suffered a brutal knee injury during the 2022 NFL season. Early thoughts around the injury expressed concerns that Williams could be sidelined into the 2023 season after damaging multiple ligaments. However, reports indicate that Williams was able to participate in some drills in a limited capacity at training camp this week, his first opportunity to see the field. He'll still need to be cleared for contact, but this is an incredibly positive sign for his upcoming season.
Williams was on track to be the Broncos' featured back in 2022 before the injury ended his season after four games. He had been winning work away from former teammate Melvin Gordon until that point and had shown three-down abilities by averaging four receptions per game in that time. Assuming he is at full health by the start of the upcoming season, he could find himself in the first few rounds of fantasy drafts later this year.
