Blaine Gabbert likely to open 49ers' training camp as starter
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert is expected to open training camp as the team's starting quarterback.
Colin Kaepernick (various surgeries) resumed practicing at OTA's on Tuesday, but "looked a bit rusty" and worked behind Gabbert in 7-on-7 drills. Kaepernick may not progress to 11-on-11 work until training camp. The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows anticipates Gabbert opening camp atop the depth chart with Kaepernick, Thad Lewis and Jeff Driskel behind him -- and practicing in that same order.
Among passers with at least 100 drop backs, Gabbert and Kaepernick finished 38th and 39th, respectively, in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back last season.
