Eagles unimpressed with Jordan Matthews' play on outside

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson doesn't seem impressed with wide receiver Jordan Matthews' ability to play outside, saying "he's better on the inside."

What It Means:

Pederson and offensive coordinator Frank Reich have given Matthews an extended look as an outside receiver after he played strictly in the slot under ex-coach Chip Kelly. But the reviews haven't been great. It sounds like Matthews is going to continue to play the vast majority of his snaps inside, with Nelson Agholor joined by some combination of Chris Givens, Rueben Randle, or Josh Huff outside.

Matthews showed a lot of promise as a rookie. Among wideouts with at least 80 targets, he finished 2014 ranked 18th in Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) per target. In 2015, among that same subset, he ended the season ranked 35th in Reception NEP per target.
