Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery playing out the 2016 season under the terms of the franchise tag is a "near certainty," reports the Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer.
Jeffery struggled with injuries last season and is skipping voluntary workouts this year, leaving the Bears with some questions about his long-term value to the team.
When healthy, Jeffery has proven that he can contribute at a high level. He posted 0.79 Reception Net Expected Points per target last season, good for 24th among the 86 receivers who saw at least 50 targets.
