Dolphins to give Ryan Tannehill more liberty at line of scrimmage
Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill will have more freedom at the line of scrimmage this season, head coach Adam Gase confirmed.
Infamously, Tannehill wasn't allowed to audible in Bill Lazor's offense. "In this offense, you're not really locked in on what the play call is," Gase said. "For (Tannehill) to have the ability to know what to get to — that kind of flexibility — being able to do that as a quarterback is very valuable." Gase went on to say Tannehill's intelligence is "off the charts." Coming off a season where he revived Jay Cutler's career, Gase has the capability to put Tannehill's in motion.
Among the 46 quarterbacks who dropped back at least 100 times in 2015, Tannehill's 0.05 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back ranked just 32nd. He took a step back from his 2014 per-drop back value (0.07) in a fraught year for the Dolphins' organization.
