Sam Darnold to start for Panthers Week 12 versus Broncos
Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold will start in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Baker Mayfield started in place of P.J. Walker (ankle) last week for the first time since Week 5, but the Panthers were apparently unimpressed. Darnold, who spent the first half of the season recovering from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the final preseason game, went 4-7 as a starter for the Panthers last season.
Among the 44 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs last season, Darnold ranked 38th (negative-0.10) in Passing Net Expected Points per attempt. For reference, Mayfield's Passing NEP per attempt in 2022 (negative-0.13) is dead last out of 38 qualified throwers.
