Giants and Chargers also placed claims on Zach Mettenberger
The New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals also put in waiver claims on quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
The Chargers were awarded Mettenberger on Tuesday due to them having the worst 2015 record of the three teams. The Bengals' decision to place a claim is a bit more surprising since they appear set with Andy Dalton and A.J. McCarron at quarterback. The Giants have Ryan Nassib backing up Eli Manning. Both McCarron and Nassib have been a part of trade rumors this offseason.
Among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs in 2015, Mettenberger's -0.24 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back ranked 45th. McCarron ranked 13th in this metric, and Nassib has attempted just 10 regular-season passes, completing nine for 128 yards and a touchdown.
