Teddy Bridgewater T. Bridgewater

Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) to be Dolphins backup if active

Miami Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will handle backup duties against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in Week 6 if he clears the concussion protocol, per head coach Mike McDaniel.

What It Means:

Bridgewater is expected to be able to clear protocol by kickoff on Sunday, but he's unlikely to get in a full practice by then, so the Dolphins plan on having him behind Skylar Thompson as the seventh-round rookie makes his first career start. McDaniel also said that Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) will be inactive again in Week 6.

Thompson averaged negative-0.32 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back last week versus the New York Jets, which is more than twice as bad as Baker Mayfield this season (negative-0.15). However, the Jets have the No. 13 pass defense in numberFire's advanced team rankings while the Vikings have the sixth-worst, so Thompson may have an easier time against an inferior opponent. He is the QB20 in numberFire's Week 6 rankings and our models project him for 15.4 FanDuel points.
