Patriots' Mac Jones (back) uncertain for Week 2, but avoided serious injury
The New England Patriots believe that quarterback Mac Jones (back) avoided a serious injury, but are not sure if he will play in Week 2's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jones was taken in for X-rays immediately following the team's Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins, and further testing Monday did not reveal any significant damage to the second-year quarterback's back. If he were to miss any time, Brian Hoyer would be the most likely substitute at the position.
Jones and the Patriots struggled to get any offense going in Week 1, and beyond a splashy 41-yard play from Kendrick Bourne the team created just one play of 20 or more yards. The Steelers, their Week 2 opponent, were relentless on defense in Week 1, but will be without All Pro pass rusher T.J. Watt (pectoral).
