Browns see Danny Shelton as three-down player
Danny Shelton, a 6'2", 339-pound defensive tackle, is getting praised by the Browns for his ability to be more than just a run-stopping nose tackle.
Taken 12th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, Shelton got some criticism, as plenty of people saw him as a run-stopping specialist with stamina issues, so it's promising to see such news even though nothing will be truly proven in training camp.
Last season, the Browns ranked 25th in rushing defense, according to our Adjusted Defensive Rushing Net Expected Points per play metric. Even if he doesn't translate to a three-down player as a rookie, his run-stopping ability should help improve the run defense, but he has a long way to go to shake off all detractors given his high selection in the draft.
