Cowboys or Browns could trade back into Round 1 of NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns have "made calls" in an effort to trade back into the first round, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

What It Means:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport previously reported something similar concerning Cleveland. The Cowboys and Browns would presumably be targeting quarterbacks later in round one, trading back up in order to secure fifth-year options on them as first-round picks. Schefter hinted he expects Memphis' Paxton Lynch to be the third quarterback drafted. After expressing doubt Lynch would be a first-round pick earlier in the day, Schefter said he now believes Lynch has a "real chance" to land in the top 32. Schefter also tweeted he anticipates a lot of trade action throughout Thursday night.

The Browns are surely in need of stability at the quarterback position, finishing 20th in Adjusted Offensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back last year. The Cowboys would want to draft the heir to Tony Romo, after his injury derailed the Dallas passer position and led them to a 30th-ranked finish in this metric.
