Rams want to sign Donte Whitner, but not at current price
The Los Angeles Rams are "hoping" to sign free agent strong safety Donte Whitner, but the team doesn't like his current price tag, ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner reports.
The Rams are the only team Whitner has visited in the 26 days he's been on the open market. L.A. has a gaping hole next to T.J. McDonald at safety, but Whitner is holding out for more than a million or so bucks. After the draft, Whitner, and plenty of other veterans, should be able to find a landing spot.
Whitner racked up 81 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 2 passes defensed in 14 games last year. The Rams' defense ranked eighth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play in 2015 and sixth in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play.
