Jets activate Sheldon Richardson's fifth-year option
The New York Jets exercised defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson's fifth-year option for 2017.
This was a no-brainer. Richardson has proven himself one of the most effective and versatile linemen in the game, and the option is guaranteed for injury only, meaning the Jets can get out of the deal if he suffers any setbacks off the field. The option will be worth around $8 million.
Richardson totaled 35 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles in 2015. He helped the Jets finish sixth in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
