Browns' Baker Mayfield (shoulder surgery) may sit Week 18

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield might undergo shoulder surgery before Sunday's Week 18 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

What It Means:

Mayfield said after Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that he will undergo surgery to repair the torn labrum in his non-throwing left shoulder. With the Browns now being eliminated from playoff contention, Mayfield added that he will confer with his family and agent before deciding whether or not to have the procedure before the Browns' final game of the season. "I'm an extremely competitive guy," he said after Monday's 26-14 loss. "Now it's time for me to start looking at what's in the best interest of me and my health." Case Keenum will close out the campaign under center for Cleveland if Mayfield decides to go under the knife and start his offseason a week early.

Among the 32 quarterbacks with at least 200 drop backs this season, Mayfield tied for the seventh-fewest Passing Net Expected Points per play (0.00). His completion percentage fell 2.3 points from last year and his adjusted yards per attempt (6.6) dropped more than a yard while Mayfield's interception rate rose from 1.6% to 3.1%.
