Buccaneers prefer Leonard Fournette in blitz pickup
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette is more trustworthy than Ronald Jones in picking up blitzes, head coach Bruce Arians said.
Jones failed to pick up a blitz in pass protection on Sunday and it resulted in Tom Brady being sacked for a seven-yard loss. “Yeah, it speaks for itself,” Arians replied when asked if Fournette was the more reliable back in those situations. Jones was the "starter" in the game, but Fournette out-touched him 15-7 and out-gained him 76-36. Through two games, Fournette is out-touching Jones 29-11 and he leads the team with six red zone carries. The Bucs face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3.
numberFire's models project Fournette for 10.7 FanDuel points in Week 3 and he has a $5,800 salary on the main slate. Fournette has earned a 58.0 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus this season, which ranks 43rd out of 84 backs to record a pass-block snap. The Rams have the fifth-worst run defense in our advanced team rankings.
