Vikings' Irv Smith (meniscus surgery) likely out for year

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith underwent meniscus surgery Wednesday and is likely going to miss the 2021 season, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.

What It Means:

Smith is facing a 4-5 month recovery timeline, putting his entire season in doubt. Tyler Conklin and Chris Herndon, whom the Vikings acquired from the New York Jets earlier this week, are expected to compete for starting tight end duties.

Conklin has a $4,400 salary in Week 1 and numberFire's models project him for 3.3 targets. Herndon has the same Week 1 salary and is projected for 2.7 targets.
