Jets reportedly expected to utilize "three-headed attack" at running back

The New York Jets are expected to deploy a running-back-by-committee approach this season, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic.

What It Means:

While there is still some shuffling bound to occur in the depth chart, Hughes reports that a "three-headed attack" of Michael Carter, Tevin Coleman and Ty Johnson could be in store to start the season. And fourth-string back La'Mical Perine could still have a role in short-yardage situations. This shouldn't be a surprise. Head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur are from San Francisco, where Kyle Shanahan has long utilized a very democratic process in distributing backfield touches.

Our models project all three backs to finish with similar fantasy totals. Carter is technically the leader in the clubhouse, with 727.36 all-purpose yards and 4.47 total touchdowns expected this season.
