Javonte Williams seen as Broncos' lead back
Denver Broncos second-round rookie running back Javonte Williams is expected to lead the Broncos in rushing attempts and yards this season, per Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post.
"If [Melvin] Gordon has a productive training camp, I see a situation where he takes the first snap/series of the game and the Broncos ease Williams into a bigger role each week," O'Halloran said. The Broncos traded up in the second round for Williams, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him pass Gordon on the depth chart by the end of the season. Williams averaged 7.3 yards per carry in his final season at North Carolina and he set Pro Football Focus’s missed tackles forced per carry record.
Williams is currently the RB25 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings and our models expect him to out-carry Gordon 181.7-147.3. He is projected for 810.2 rushing yards and 6.9 touchdowns with 25.9 receptions (35.1 targets) for 176.8 yards and 1.1 touchdowns. Per Fantasy Football Calculator, Williams' ADP in PPR drafts is in the middle of the sixth round.
