Jaguars discussing moving Jonathan Cyprien to linebacker
The Jacksonville Jaguars have discussed moving strong safety Johnathan Cyprien to linebacker.
With the addition of free safety Tashaun Gipson, the Jaguars are playing around with the idea of getting Cyprien even closer to the line of scrimmage. Even when he entered the NFL, Cyprien was viewed as a box safety because of his deficiencies in coverage. Teams saw what the Los Angeles Rams did with Mark Barron, turning him from safety into a weak-side linebacker, and Barron just cashed in with a five-year, $45 million deal on Wednesday.
The Jaguars ranked 24th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play this past season. They're getting creative, and it can't hurt.
