Giants still optimistic about re-signing Jason Pierre-Paul

The New York Giants are expressing "optimism" they will be able to re-sign free agent defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.

What It Means:

Graziano reports the Giants have only offered Pierre-Paul a one-year deal and are trying to convince him New York is the best place to rehab his value. Pierre Paul's camp reportedly believes they will be able to fetch a long-term deal on the open market. NJ Advance Media reports the market for Pierre-Paul has been "aggressive" with "more than a handful of suitors." One of those potential suitors is reportedly the Arizona Cardinals, who have been linked to numerous pass rushers this offseason. With a seemingly hot market, it looks like Pierre-Paul will be playing elsewhere unless the Giants are willing to offer a multi-year deal.

In eight games in 2015, Pierre-Paul made 26 tackles with one sack and two fumble recoveries. New York finished 25th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
