Jets' Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to hit market

New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to hit the open market, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

What It Means:

Rapoport reports the Jets and Fitzpatrick remain "far apart" in negotiations. This close to the legal tampering window, it makes sense for the Fitzpatrick to gauge his value on the market. With Sam Bradford and Kirk Cousins locked up, Fitzpatrick is the best veteran option available. His next deal could rival Bradford's two-year, $36 million contract.

Among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs this season, Fitzpatrick finished 2015 13th in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. With Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall in the fold, Fitzpatrick should be in line for another solid campaign if he returns to New York.
