Ravens will use the franchise tag on Justin Tucker if necessary
Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, an impending free agent, will receive the franchise tag if a deal isn't reached before the March 1 deadline, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday.
Franchising Tucker would give the Ravens more time to work out an extension. Tucker would make $4.5 million if he plays under the tag.
One of the game's premier kickers, Tucker made 82.5 percent of his field goal attempts this season, with all but one of his misses coming from 50-plus. He was also perfect from the new extra point distance, a feat only five kickers managed this year.
