Tom Savage expected to compete for Texans' starting job

Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage is expected to compete for the Texans' starting job.

What It Means:

Owner Bob McNair has made it clear he wants to upgrade from Brian Hoyer. Savage should get an opportunity after spending the last two years as a backup. It’s possible Savage and a rookie compete to be Houston’s 2016 starter.

Among the 39 passers with at least 150 drop backs in 2015, Hoyer's 0.10 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back tied for 17th. In the Wild Card Round, Hoyer cost his Texans a whopping -21.26 Passing Net Expected Points on just 34 drop backs. As a team, the Texans ranked 25th in Adjusted Offensive Passing NEP per play this year.
