Dwayne Haskins released by Football Team

The Washington Football Team released quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

What It Means:

The Football Team may have done this last week after Haskins was fined $40,000 for violating COVID-19 protocols by attending a party maskless, but they needed him to start again since Alex Smith (calf) remained out. He proceeded to complete only 14-of-28 passes for 154 yards with 2 interceptions and a lost fumble. Haskins is only 23 with a first-round pedigree, so he will likely get another opportunity elsewhere. Taylor Heinicke may be forced to start a pivotal Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night if Smith remains sidelined.

Haskins finished with 2.2 FanDuel points in Week 16 and earned his second-worst passing grade of the season (39.2) from Pro Football Focus. He owns the second-worst adjusted completion percentage under pressure in the league this year among all quarterbacks with at least 50 pressured dropbacks. The Eagles are 19th in FanDuel points allowed per game to the quarterback position this season.
