49ers "holding out hope" for Jimmy Garoppolo return this season
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) and George Kittle (knee) are "not guaranteed" to return this season, but the 49ers are "holding out hope" that they could be back for the final two weeks.
Speaking to the media this week, Kyle Shanahan said "I’m holding out hope for Jimmy for the last couple of weeks, same with Kittle. I think they’re in a similar boat, but that, I mean, that’s not guaranteed.” As expected, it's a longshot that either Garoppolo or Kittle see the field again this season, but with the 49ers remaining in the playoff hunt, there is still some hope. If the two stars did return for the final two weeks of the season, they would face the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
The 49ers have a 6.6% chance of making the playoffs, according to numberFire's NFL Team Power Rankings. Their odds are the eleventh-worst in the league.
