Seahawks wanting Russell Wilson to cook less

The Seattle Seahawks don't want quarterback Russell Wilson to throw the ball "40 times or 50 times" each game, head coach Pete Carroll said.

What It Means:

"He certainly can do it and loves doing it and we don't mind doing it, but our football is better shaped when we're balanced and we're attacking you and we can play off of that," Carroll said about the Seahawks letting Wilson cook. "It fits the defense; it fits the special teams. It's the statement of the way we play." Wilson completed 22-of-31 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' Monday night win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He's averaging 29.5 attempts over the last two games after chucking it 41.3 times from Weeks 7-10 when Carlos Hyde and Chris Carson were banged up. Wilson's production has slowed after his torrid stretch earlier this year, but he will remain a top-tier option at quarterback in Week 13 against the New York Giants.

Russ is averaging 17.2 FanDuel points over the last two games, down from 27.6 FanDuel points in Weeks 1-10. The Seahawks' 69.2 percent dropback rate over the first 10 weeks paced the NFL, including 71.9 percent in Weeks 8-10 when Carson and Hyde were injured. That clip fell to 62.3 percent in Week 11 when Hyde returned and then 52.1 percent on Monday night against the Eagles.
