Carolina's Jared Allen announces retirement

Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen announced his retirement after 12 seasons in the NFL.

What It Means:

In a move befitting his personality, Allen posted a video on Twitter of him "riding off" into retirement on the back of a horse. One of the best pass rushers of his generation, Allen recorded 136 sacks over his 12-year career and earned four First-Team All-Pro honors. His 22 sacks in 2011 are the second-highest single-season tally in NFL history, and he finishes his career tied for ninth on the all-time sack list. Seven of the names ahead of him on the list are in the Hall of Fame. Allen will likely join them in Canton in the next decade.

Allen recorded 2.0 sacks with the Panthers this season, playing a rotational role on a defense which ended 2015 ranked second in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points per play.
