Werder: Saints' Drew Brees has broken ribs on both sides, collapsed lung

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has broken ribs on both sides of his body and a collapsed lung on his right side, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

What It Means:

We knew there was an injury to Brees, as he was knocked out of Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers and didn't take a snap in the second half, but nobody expected injuries to this extent. The veteran quarterback seems to be in line to miss multiple games going forward, though that hasn't been confirmed yet. Jameis Winston would be the starting quarterback should Brees miss any time, and Taysom Hill's role in the offense would likely expand.

In 9 games this season, Brees has completed 219 of 298 (73.5 percent) of his attempts for 2,196 yards and 18 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. He currently ranks 12th in Ben Baldwin's EPA+CPOE composite.
