Football Team's Antonio Gibson gaining confidence as runner
Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson is gaining confidence running inside, head coach Ron Rivera said.
Gibson is coming off his best game as a pro after running 20 times for 128 yards and a touchdown in Washington's Week 7 win against the Dallas Cowboys. The rookie's previous high-water marks were 13 carries and 55 yards. After the Football Team's Week 8 bye, three of their next four opponents rank in the bottom seven in rushing yards allowed per game. Only three of Washington's final nine games are against teams currently ranked in the top-10. Gibson will likely continue to lose out on some pass-catching work to J.D. McKissic, but the rookie third-rounder has proven he can handle a big workload. The Football Team will play the New York Giants in Week 9 after their bye.
Gibson is averaging 11.9 FanDuel points per game (RB26). He ranks 22nd in Rushing Net Expected Points per carry out of 68 running backs with at least 25 attempts this season.
