Belichick: Cam Newton "absolutely" Patriots starter going forward
New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton will remain the team's starter at the position going forward, head coach Bill Belichick told reporters.
Newton was benched in the midst of a 33-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers for backup Jarrett Stidham, though it appears that was just a way to get the youngster some live-game reps. Coming off a lost season in Carolina, Newton looked spectacular for his new team before going on the Reserve/COVID-19 injury list after testing positive. Perhaps he's still a bit rusty from that. In any case, Newton told media he knows he has to be better to ensure he continues to start, so we'll see if that comes in the near future.
Our models currently project Newton for 218.16 passing yards, 37.65 rushing yards, 1.31 total touchdowns and 17.07 FanDuel points in Week 8's game against the Buffalo Bills.
