Lions' Rashean Mathis hanging it up after 13 seasons

Detroit Lions cornerback Rashean Mathis has announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the NFL.

What It Means:

The 39th overall pick of the 2003 draft, Mathis spent the first 10 years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was a first-team All Pro selection in 2006. Mathis retires with 32 interceptions across 175 career games. He missed the final nine games of 2015 with a concussion. Mathis turns 36 in August. The Lions have a cornerback need opposite Darius Slay.

The Lions ranked 26th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) in 2015. They are still just one year removed from a top-five finish in our defensive metrics (fourth in 2014).
