Austin Ekeler (hamstring) to return for Chargers 'later than sooner'
Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler (hamstring, injured reserve) will be back "later than sooner," according to head coach Anthony Lynn.
Lynn described Ekeler's hamstring injury as "very serious." Ekeler is currently in the third week of a 4-6 week recovery timeline and it sounds like he's trending toward the backend of that prognosis. Justin Jackson out-snapped (42-to-25) and had more touches (20-to-12) than rookie Joshua Kelley in the first game without Ekeler before the Chargers' bye. He will likely lead the way again in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
numberFire's models expect Jackson to handle 15.8 touches and score 11.3 FanDuel points versus the Jaguars while Kelley is projected for 12.9 touches and 8.9 FanDuel points. Jackson has a salary of $6,100 while Kelley's is set at $6,200. They have both performed comparably in terms of Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, but as a pass-catcher, Kelley (0.7 Reception NEP per target) has been far superior to Jackson (0.1).
